What is an AI visibility checker?

An AI visibility checker tests whether your website is technically ready to be read, understood and cited by AI answer engines like ChatGPT, Perplexity, Google AI Overviews and Claude.

Traditional SEO tools grade you for Google's blue links. This tool grades you for the layer above them: the AI-generated answer. It inspects the exact signals large language models rely on to decide whether they can parse your pages, understand who you are, and quote you as a trusted source. If those signals are missing, you can rank on Google and still be invisible the moment a buyer asks an AI instead. This checker groups its findings into three areas, AI access, content and technical, and turns every gap into a prioritized fix.

Why AI visibility matters now

Buyer behaviour has already shifted. More people ask ChatGPT or Perplexity for a recommendation before they ever open Google, and Google itself now answers many queries with an AI Overview above the classic results. When the model builds that answer, it reads a handful of sources it trusts and names a few brands. If it cannot read your site, or never learned what you do, you are simply left out of the shortlist, with no line in your analytics to tell you it happened.

That is the quiet leak this tool surfaces. It does not promise magic. It shows you, concretely, whether the machines can even see you yet, and what to fix first.

What this AI visibility tool checks

The checker runs eleven deterministic checks against your page and your domain, grouped into three categories. Each one maps to something AI systems actually use.

Most important
AI crawler access
Whether your robots.txt lets GPTBot, ClaudeBot, PerplexityBot, CCBot and Google-Extended crawl at all. Blocking them is the single most common, and most damaging, mistake.
llms.txt
Whether you publish an llms.txt to point AI systems at the content you most want cited.
Structured data (JSON-LD)
Whether your pages carry schema so models can parse meaning, not just text.
Entity / Organization schema
Whether your brand is defined as a clear entity, so models know who you are.
Answer-first content and FAQ
Whether your content is structured in the question-and-answer format LLMs prefer to quote.
Technical hygiene
Title, meta description, a single H1, canonical, sitemap and Open Graph, so a model can cleanly read and attribute a page.

Are you accidentally blocking ChatGPT?

This is the check that surprises almost everyone. Over the last two years, many sites quietly added lines to their robots.txt that block AI crawlers, sometimes copied from a template, sometimes added by a security plugin, sometimes on purpose during the early backlash against AI training. The result is the same: if GPTBot or ClaudeBot is disallowed, those systems cannot fetch your pages, so they fall back on whatever they already learned about you, or on your competitors.

Run the check above and read the first result. If it flags blocked crawlers, that is usually the highest-leverage fix on the entire list, and it takes one line in a file.

The checker vs. the AI Visibility Audit

This free tool answers one question: is your site technically ready for AI. It runs in seconds and hands you the fixes for free. But technically ready is not the same as actually cited.

That is what the free AI Visibility Audit adds. Instead of a bot, a person runs the real prompts your buyers type into ChatGPT, Claude, Perplexity and Google's AI, checks whether you are named or a competitor wins the answer, looks at which sources the models trust, and sends you a short personal teardown of the gaps. It is free, done by hand, and it is how most conversations with us start. Request it right inside the tool above.

FAQ

Answers to the most important questions about AI visibility and this checker.

What is an AI visibility checker?

A tool that tests whether your website is technically ready to be read, understood and cited by AI answer engines like ChatGPT, Perplexity, Google AI Overviews and Claude.

Does this tool tell me if ChatGPT already mentions my brand?

No. This free tool checks technical readiness from your own site. Whether an LLM currently names and cites you across real buyer prompts is what the free manual AI Visibility Audit covers, which you can request right in the tool.

What is GPTBot and should I allow it?

GPTBot is OpenAI's web crawler. If you want ChatGPT to be able to read and cite your pages, it should be allowed in your robots.txt. The same goes for ClaudeBot, PerplexityBot and Google-Extended.

Why isn't my site showing up in AI answers?

The most common reasons are blocked AI crawlers, missing structured data and unclear entity markup, so models either cannot read your pages or cannot confidently understand who you are.

What do the three categories mean?

AI Access is whether crawlers can reach you. Content is whether models can understand and quote you (schema, entity, answer-first). Technical is the hygiene that lets a page be cleanly read and attributed.

What is a good AI readiness score?

Above 75 is solid, 45 to 74 means several signals are missing, and below 45 means AI systems can barely read you. The recommendations show exactly what to fix first.

Is the AI visibility checker free?

Yes, completely, including the score, category breakdown and prioritized fixes, with no signup. You can also request a free manual AI Visibility Audit if you want a human to check whether AI actually cites you.

What is llms.txt?

An emerging standard file, similar to robots.txt but aimed at AI systems, that points models to the content you most want read and cited. It is an early signal, not a requirement.

How is this different from a regular SEO audit?

An SEO audit optimizes for ranking in Google's results. This checks whether AI answer engines can read, understand and cite you, which is a different and newer layer called AEO, or Answer Engine Optimization.

Can I check my competitors?

Yes. The tool works on any public URL, so you can benchmark your AI readiness against competitors in your category.
